The “Zelta Zirgs” track in Kegums, Latvia, is not exactly a favorite for many riders, including Valentin, due to a tricky ground structure with a hard and sometimes bumpy surface covered with a sandy layer.
At the start of race 1, after losing time due to a collective crash, Valentin had to recover from last to 15th place, despite another crash during the race. His second start went decidedly better and Valentin disputed the entire race in the top ten to cross the finish line in eighth place and finish tenth overall.
In Latvia Valentin was the only member representing the Ship To Cycle Honda Motoblouz SR team, as Emil Weckman is still recovering from the concussion suffered in the French GP. Following doctor’s advice, he will skip next weekend in Germany and return to action for the Indonesian races of the championship.
Josse Sallefranque: “I’m happy with Valentin’s results on a track he doesn’t really like, due to some bad luck in the past. Despite this, he made two very good starts and fought for another top ten MXGP result, despite a race incident at the first start and another crash later. We remain focused ahead of the next races: the German GP next week and then the penultimate round of the French Elite before moving to Indonesia for two more GPs.”
