The first GP of MXGP 2023 has come to an end!
The start of the Championship is always a meaningful event for teams and riders, and Villa La Angostura was no exception. Emil Weckman and Valentin Guillod had to face well-prepared opponents, but their intensive training, experience and desire to succeed contributed to a good first GP.
Guillod had a pretty consistent performance, finishing 9th in the qualifying race: a good position to start the GP. Race 1 was going pretty well until he fell at the end of the first round and lost a few positions, finishing in P14. #92 later found his pace in Round 2 and managed to end the race in P12, but it was not enough to enter the Top 10: P14 overall for the French rider.
Better results for Weckman in MX2 despite getting caught in a collective fall at the start of Race 1 and finishing the first round in P14. He managed to get a hold in Race 2 and reached the 11th position, ending the first GP of the season one position away from the Top 10. We were worried for Emil’s condition after the latest accident at Lacapelle, but seeing his performance we could noyt be happier.
Josse Sallefranque, Team Manager: “The goal was to finish in the top twelve, Emil did it and Valentin was not far! Happy with the races of Emil Weckman, we were not sure to have him with us after his injury and happy also with the performance of Valentin. Just a shame that he crashed at the end of the first race and hit his face, that didn’t help him for the second race but the fact that both riders never give up is really positive. We’ll continue to work hard to reach all our goals.”
Next weekend Emil and Valentin will join Stephen Rubini at Castelnau de Levis, for the second round of the French Championship.
Thumbs up to them and Team SR for their results.
