Already the site of a GP last year, the Samota track on Sumbawa Island hosted the tenth round of the season and was marked by Emil Weckman’s return to racing.
Forced by the FIM to have another medical checkup to be sure the hematoma was gone, Emil got on his Honda for the first time since his crash in France, and the hot weather did not help him in his return to racing. Fourteenth and fifteenth in the race, despite a big crash early in the second moto, Emil never gave up to finish twice in the points and fifteenth in the GP.
His teammate Valentin showed great speed at the beginning of the second moto, running in second position for a few laps until some cramps forced him to slow down; tenth and ninth in the race, he will finish ninth overall and get his seventh TOP 10 result in ten GPs to consolidate his ninth position in the championship.
Josse Sallefranque: “I am happy to see Emil back in the race, although he came without racing for a month he scored points in both races without giving up, even after the crash at the start of the second race. As for Valentin, there are some very good points, both for his speed and his starts, and some less good ones between small crashes and cramps; in any case he signed another good performance with this ninth place.”
