It was a rainy and muddy weekend in Agueda, Portugal for the fifth round of the MXGP. Kevin Horgmo got his best result of this season with a seventh place overall.
It was a long time since we have seen a muddy MXGP race, and it was in deep mud that our riders battled all day as several showers hit Portugal this weekend. The first moto was even more difficult than the others, as a heavy rain shower came just as the riders went behind the grid for the first race.
Kevin Horgmo, 15th in qualifying, did not get off to the best start in race one, but he had a great race by moving up from 21st to 10th on a track that changed during the race due to rain. His second start was much better, and he avoided all mistakes to cross the finish line in the sixth position and place seventh overall, this is his best ever MXGP performance. He is now ninth in the rankings.
The weekend was much more difficult for Valentin Guillod, who qualified 21st and had a poor gate choice for the race. He didn’t feel any more comfortable for Sunday’s races, taking home only three points from this round.
